CDA’s response to Mitch McConnell’s “solutions” to the student debt crisis

While speaking with constituents in Buckner, Kentucky, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was asked for his thoughts on changes that could be made for students suffering from mountains of debt after graduation. In his response, he ruled out any kind of government intervention, shared his support of for-profit higher education institutions, and advised students to choose lower-cost schools.

McConnell’s responses show not only a lack of care for his college-aged constituents, but also a complete lack of awareness of the current situation young adults face in the United States.

Our country today is facing a humanitarian crisis. The southern border of the United States is being flooded with women and children fleeing violence and poverty from their home countries in Central America.  These people are greeted by a system that doesn’t know what to do with them. Sadly, our country is now facing the consequences of a broken immigration system that must be fixed. President Obama and Congressional Democrats have stepped up to the plate, but House Republicans would rather play politics than deal with the problem at hand.
