THE OFFICIAL COLLEGE OUTREACH ARM OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY
"Grab a Mop!"
On Tuesday, October 20th I attended an event with President Obama in New York City held by the Democratic National Committee and Organizing for America. At the event each attendee made five phone calls to fellow New Yorkers, asking them to call their members of Congress in support of health insurance reform. After the thousands of calls were made, President Obama delivered a speech on the urgency for Americans to mobilize in support of reform.

Recognizing that we are all in this together the President has been hard at work to create jobs, ensure stable and affordable insurance, and better secure the country. But he has been met by Republicans with knee-jerk opposition and partisan obstruction to every new idea. Last week, the President suggested that rather than simply saying "NO" to efforts to help put the country back on the right track, the GOP should "grab a mop" and help clean up the mess we're in to move the country forward.

Inspired by this statement and the overall push for health insurance reform, College Democrats around the country saw this as a call to action. Students delivered mops to the offices of Republicans nationwide to ask Republicans to take the President’s advice: either grab a mop and help clean up the mess, or stop blocking change.
