National President

Alejandra C. Salinas | National President | salinasa@collegedems.com

University of Texas – Austin

Alejandra grew up in a small border town in South Texas. She comes from a conservative family and attended catholic school. Growing up with another country in her backyard, Alejandra had a daily reminder of the opportunities that make our nation unique.

Alejandra’s political introduction was during the proposed immigration reform of 2006. Inspired by the struggles and successes of her great grandfather’s immigration into this country, she organized her peers to advocate for an issue that was so close to home through a school wide walkout. The experiences of those events ensured a lifetime commitment to politics.

Before being elected President of CDA, Alejandra served our organization on the chapter, state, and national levels. In the fall of 2008, Alejandra began college and immediately became involved with the College Democrats on her campus and served on their executive board for two semesters. At the end of her freshman year Alejandra was elected Vice President of Texas College Democrats (TCD) and Chair of the CDA Hispanic Caucus. In the fall, TCD launched a website, grant programs, online chartering, and their first Fall Conference. The Hispanic Caucus mobilized thousands of students across the country to phonebank on behalf of Latino GOTV and led a coalition of CDA caucuses to build awareness on census participation.

In August 2010, Alejandra was unanimously elected to serve as the first Latina President of the College Democrats of America at the National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Politics Daily has named her one of the “Five Rising Stars Age 25 and Under.” During her Presidency, Alejandra has tirelessly committed herself to CDA and all of its endeavors. During her first weeks in office she wrote the CDA midterm elections youth plan, introduced Chairman Kaine at the DNC Summer Meeting, and hired our Executive Director. She has traveled across the country participating in campaign invasions, speaking at Latino youth outreach events, and representing CDA at DNC events. She has also fulfilled her commitment to strengthen ties with the DNC and recently delivered the seconding speech to officially nominate Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Alejandra is an incoming senior at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business pursuing a degree in Management.
