Eliza is currently studying Economics and Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She was born in the Bronx, New York, but was raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina – a college town well-known for being liberal. Eliza became involved in politics through issues surrounding immigration reform and immediately became involved in her College Democrats chapter upon entering college. She served as President of the UNC Charlotte chapter, where the 2010 CDA National Convention was hosted. Eliza is currently the Vice President of the College Democrats of North Carolina after serving a year as their Finance Director. During her time as Finance Director, she developed a grant program for chapters, started their political action committee, as well as raising more than ever before in any year of the organizations history.
Prior to being elected as Political Director, she served as Chair of the CDA Hispanic Caucus. In her various roles within College Democrats, Eliza has organized advocacy events around the DREAM Act, education, and health care reform. She also has played a key role in organizing students for various campaigns in Charlotte and North Carolina. She put together campaign events on campus for Anthony Foxx’s successful campaign for Mayor of Charlotte, organized voter registration projects for the Obama campaign, and set up regional phone banks for College Democrats during the 2010 midterm elections.
Outside of College Democrats, Eliza serves as UNC Charlotte’s Student Body Treasurer, President of STAND: A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, and Executive Vice President of Alpha Kappa Psi – Professional Business Fraternity. Eliza is planning to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration.
