A Labor Day message from Pete Christopher, CDA’s Coordinator of Labor Issues:

Labor Day is a time for us to recognize the past accomplishments of the Labor Movement and the American worker, and to think about new ways to extend the American Dream for future generations of Americans. On this Labor Day, the College Democrats of America continue the commitment to American workers: quality affordable health care, safe working conditions, good and fair wages, and adequate workplace rights. The priorities of the American worker have always been issues that the Democratic Party has led on, and the College Democrats of America plan to continue this legacy.

The job numbers released this past Friday provide us with some encouraging news while reminding us that millions of Americans are still looking for work. President Obama, Democrats in Congress and the College Democrats of America will not rest until everyone American who wants a job, has one.

The College Democrats of America have demonstrated their commitment to the American workforce this past week by appointing the first ever Coordinator of Labor Issues that will advocate for the needs of American workers within the College Democrats of America. Dedicated students from across the country are excited to have the opportunity to work with the new Coordinator of Labor Issues, and are bringing many new and innovative ideas to the table.

If the recession has taught us anything, it is that when one overlooks the needs of the middle class there are negative consequences for the economy as a whole. It is imperative not to return to the reckless policies that got us into this recession, rather we should focus on working towards new solutions that are being advanced by the President and Democrats to provide a healthy environment for workers across the nation. The College Democrats of America is proud of  Democrats’ efforts to support American workers this Labor Day.
