American Jobs Act ensures college students a brighter future

Middle class Americans across the country have much to look forward to after President Obama’s ambitious speech before Congress, in which he promised to lower the tax burden on hard-working families, invest in small businesses, and ensure that access to quality education is an opportunity for all children.

But the American Jobs Act doesn’t just guarantee temporary economic improvement; a stronger economic future for America means quality, sustainable jobs for college students preparing to enter the workforce. When he ran for president in 2008, then-Senator Obama had the full support of college students across the country who were inspired by his message of hope for a better tomorrow.

College Democrats commemorate September 11th

The events that took place on September 11, 2001, have had an immeasurable impact on every American’s life. Many College Democrats were still in elementary school in September 2001; ten years ago today, that innocence was shattered. Our futures were suddenly uncertain.

From that infamous day forward, American history has been and will continue to be divided between pre-9/11 and post-9/11. Yet from tragedy, America has proven her resilience. Rather than allowing the horrifying events of that day to force us into a lifetime of fear and insecurity, the young people whose lives were touched that day continue to boldly stride into the future, working hard to ensure a better tomorrow for America and the world.

Pot Luck Picnic

In the midst of back-to-school preparations and football tailgates, we encourage College Democrats across the country to take this Labor Day to recognize the strides made by the Labor Movement and by the countless workers who dedicate their time and efforts to achieving the American dream. This year’s Labor Day may one of the most important yet for workers around the country; Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s efforts to silence the voice of the hardworking Americans in his state revealed the growing animosity between Republican lawmakers and the citizens they claim to represent.
