#CDALeads: Engaging Youth in Politics

Annie Kehler Posted February 4, 2015 at 4:51 PM
by , Deputy Communications Director

Anne Olsen, Sociology Education major with a minor in Political Science Education at Weber State University, has used her role as a leader both inside and outside of College Democrats to engage young voters across the state of Utah.

Olsen originally got involved in College Democrats after an internship with Utah Votes, that pointed her to Utah’s State Federation. She was elected as Secretary of College Democrats of Utah, and has spent much of her time working to grow a new Chapter at Weber State.

In her work with high schools students, Olsen has found that politicians often focus only on those over 18, forgetting that high school students will be part of the voting population in 1-4 years. Anne has worked ...

Annie Kehler Posted January 20, 2015 at 11:54 PM
by , Deputy Communications Director

Tonight, President Obama delivered his 6th State of the Union speech to the American people. In response, College Democrats of America President Natasha McKenzie released the following statement.

During tonight’s State of the Union, Barack Obama laid out a vision for an economy that grows from the middle-class out, and makes sure the playing field is level for all Americans – especially young people.

He’s already got a record to be proud of…

-Passed the Affordable Care Act, that has helped decrease the uninsured rate for 19 to 25 year olds and all Americans, led to a significant drop in how much young people were paying out of pocket for medical care, and helped 3 million young adults stay on their parents’ insurance.

-The Administration's Pay As You Earn Program is helping ...

College Democrats Release New Video: “Speak Up”

Brexton Isaacs Posted October 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM
by , National Communications Director

With less than 20 days until Election Day, the College Democrats of America released a new video, entitled "Speak Up." The video features young people delivering lines that Republicans have said to highlight just how out of touch the GOP is with today's millennials.

You can view the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm63lwHkphQ

In addition, Brexton Isaacs, Communications Director of the College Democrats of America, released the following quote:

With millennials continuing to reject them in election after election, Republicans are using any desperate tactic they can to convince young people to vote for them. After using wedding dresses to try to explain voting to young women and Shark Tank to explain why it's somehow better for students to pay high interest rates on their student loans, it seems all they have left are reductive cultural ...

College Democrats Response to Scott Brown’s Sexist Frat Party

Brexton Isaacs Posted October 13, 2014 at 3:46 PM
by , National Communications Director

Yesterday in New Hampshire, Scott Brown paid a visit to a tailgate at the University of New Hampshire.

It didn't go well.

"The language became even more graphic at points, with one man shouting "F**k her right in the p***y" (00:04 in the video above), although it wasn't clear if he was referring to Shaheen or Warren. At 01:07 in the video, a man also appears to refer to Shaheen as a c**t."

Scott Brown's initial response?
"The Brown campaign declined to comment."

But we know someone who did respond right away…
The College Republican National Committee

Given this, the following is a response from College Democrats of American President Natasha McKenzie on Scott Brown's initial refusal to address these sexist comments:

"Obviously, we ...
