Young people are a powerful voting bloc, and we’re making our voices heard.
As voting heats up in 2008, one thing is clear: we’re overwhelmingly supporting Democrats.
We’re voting for Democrats over Republicans because our candidates are talking about the issues that matter to young people.
From ending the war in Iraq in making college more affordable to strengthening the economy to stopping global warming, our Democratic candidates promise the change our country needs, not a third Bush term we’d get with a Republican president.
That’s why young people are coming out in overwhelming numbers to support the Democratic candidates.
In Iowa, youth turnout tripled. Of the young people who turned out, 80% caucused for a Democrat. [CIRCLE www.civicyouth.org; [Young Voter PAC]
In New Hampshire, youth turnout surged to 37% this year, with 61% of youth voters supporting Democrats over Republicans. [Young Voter PAC]
And in Nevada, more than three times as many young voters caucused for Democratic candidates than Republicans. [Young Voter PAC]
With support like this, we’re well on our way to building a progressive majority so that Democrats continue to win.
This section will be updated weekly with new Facts on why youth people are voting for Democrats.
